The holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day are surrounding us with warmth, kindness, and generosity. In November, Colony Club members donated 97 nonperishable food items to the Food Cupboard. Thanks go to Linda Gronert for her tabulating skills and Mary Hughes for delivering the food. Dorothy Cianci, Coordinator for the Food Cupboard, has already sent us a wonderful thank you letter. Our Tree of Warmth continues to collect hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves. One delivery has already been made to the Clothes Closet as the tree and the boxes underneath filled up. It has been very rewarding to see all the donations from the club and community. Cathi Ferber’s poster and flyers have been a wonderful contribution to promote the tree.
There is still time to donate items before December 19 when everything will be taken off the tree and a final delivery made to the Clothes Closet. Our monetary donation to Boatsie’s Boxes, a state project to provide personal items to our troops overseas, helped make 1,280 servicemen and women a bit happier this holiday season.
Our last activity for 2016 is the combined American Home/Colony Club Wounded Warrior potluck dinner on December 14 at 5:30. We will be honoring a veteran with our good food, presents for the children and family, and expressions of gratefulness for his service. Remember any spouses who are veterans are also invited to join us for dinner. After our guests leave at 7:30, we will have some laughs with a Pollyanna gift exchange. Don’t forget to bring a $10.00 wrapped gift if you are participating.
Our first meeting of 2017 is January 16, which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day/a Day of Service. Please bring some of your delicious cookies to the meeting. We will divide the cookies into four trays to be delivered the next day to the fire stations and the police station. In this small way we will be thanking those who serve us every day in our city.
See you January 16, 2017, at our new starting time of 6:45 for refreshments with the meeting to start at 7:15 . The speaker will be Lillian Baruffi from Griswold Health Care. Hostesses are the American Home Department.
