September 2017—From the Desk of Diane Mozzo, President

Welcome back, ladies!

I hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable summer, and you have returned with renewed energy to make the 2017-2018 Colony Club year a great success.

One of our bylaws states…

…all members are expected to actively participate in club work and serve on committees…
When everyone plays a part from attending meetings, to volunteering for one of the committees, to preparing food for our potluck dinners, to participating in our fundraisers, it is inevitable that the Colony Club will flourish as we enter our 68th year.

On September 28, we will have our annual Spaghetti Dinner at the Flanders Hotel. It promises to be a fun evening, and I hope as many members as are able will attend. We really need a good turn out. You can come on your own, bring a friend, a spouse, or significant other but show that Colony Club spirit. You will enjoy an evening of good food, entertainment, laughter, and camaraderie at a reasonable price in a beautiful setting. What could be better than that?

The fundraiser part of the evening will be a 50/50 and the wine grab. For a $10 donation, you will be able to choose a bottle of wine and who knows what you’ll get. Plus the bottle you choose may have a surprise attached to it. If you have not donated a bottle, please bring one to our first meeting and make sure it costs at least $10.

We ended the 2016-2017 year last June with a reception for our grants, awards, scholarship, and GCI recipients. It was a dark and stormy night, but representatives from Literacy Volunteers-CA, the  American Legion, Hope Pregnancy, the Ecumenical Council, the Humane Society and the Historical Museum attended. Also an eighth grader, two senior award winners, the scholarship winner and our GCI candidate along with their mothers came. The feedback was positive, and everyone was appreciative of our generosity. I also want to give a shout out to Nicolette Mirra. It was her inspiration to have this event.

Ladies, you should be proud of the work you did!

Finally, on a sad note, we learned this summer that the husband of past president Denise Potter passed away as did long time Colony Club member, Bea Huhn. As Jane Snyder wrote about Bea “…she was a vibrant Colony Club member who loved the club, the newsletter, the penny auction at American Home, and bringing beets to the covered dish dinners.” Our condolences go to Denise, her family, and Bea’s family.

See you at our first meeting…
When & Where: SEPTEMBER 18 at 6:45 in Room 110 of the library.
